Mevlüt Uysal was born in 1966 in Antalya. He graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law. Uysal practiced as a lawyer for many years. In March 2009, he was elected as the mayor of Istanbul’s Başakşehir district in the local elections. In 2014, he was re-nominated in the local elections and was later re-elected as the mayor of Başakşehir for the second time, allowing him to continue his duty. In September 2017, he was elected as the mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality by voting at the extraordinary meeting of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council. Uysal serves as a member of the board of directors of Halkbank since May 27, 2019.
